Focus: Private Equity (PE) Due Diligence & Strategic Sourcing Advisory
Duration: 4 to 5 months
We are seeking a highly accomplished and strategically-minded Sourcing Principal Consultant to serve as the lead subject matter expert for a Private Equity firm's investment due diligence activities. This critical role requires deep, authoritative expertise in the procurement and market dynamics of specialized metals used in the medical device industry, with a primary and intense focus on titanium.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advisory Lead: Act as the senior advisor to deal teams, providing decisive and actionable insights on raw material supply chain risk and opportunity within potential medical device acquisitions.
- Risk & Cost Assessment: Conduct sophisticated, in-depth analyses of target company procurement strategies, existing contracts, supplier leverage, and cost structures for specialized metals.
- Valuation Impact: Quantify sourcing-related risks (e.g., single-source dependence, geopolitical volatility, price fluctuation) and identify value-creation opportunities to directly impact the investment thesis and valuation models.
- Executive Presentation: Prepare and deliver high-impact, data-driven presentations to senior partners and investment committees, effectively translating complex technical and market intelligence into clear financial recommendations.
Specialized Market & Commodity Expertise:
- Titanium Authority: Serve as the expert on medical-grade titanium (e.g., Ti-6Al-4V, commercially pure) procurement, processing, mill relationships, and global supply/demand dynamics.
- Multi-Metal Focus: Provide comprehensive analysis on the sourcing of other critical medical metals, including stainless steel (e.g., 316L), cobalt , and chromium .
- Hedging & Risk Strategy: Evaluate and advise on best-in-class strategies for commodity price risk management. This includes deep experience with buying, hedging, and derivatives related to titanium, cobalt, and nickel/LME metals.
Strategic Sourcing Analysis:
- Benchmarking: Critically review and benchmark target company raw material contracts and supplier performance against global market standards and best practices.
- Post-Acquisition Strategy: Develop high-level, executable strategies for supply chain optimization and raw material cost reduction to be implemented post-close.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain consulting , with a significant portion dedicated to the medical device or related high-specification manufacturing industry.
- Essential: Authoritative, hands-on experience in buying/procuring medical-grade titanium and its alloys.
- Extensive, verifiable experience in the sourcing of stainless steel, cobalt, and chromium for regulated manufacturing environments.
- Proven expertise in commodity price risk management and financial hedging techniques for metals, including specific experience advising on or executing strategies for titanium, cobalt, and nickel/LME .
- Prior experience in a consulting, advisory, or Private Equity due diligence role is highly desirable.
- Deep familiarity with quality and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, FDA) as they apply to the metal supply chain.
Skills & Attributes:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, or a related field is required. An advanced degree (MBA, MS) is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional analytical, financial modeling, and critical thinking skills —the ability to structure and solve complex supply chain problems under tight deadlines.
- Superior executive communication and influencing skills —must be able to distill complex material into concise, financially-focused narratives.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage a project pipeline in a high-stakes environment.
